Five Vikings Recognized with All-NSIC Volleyball Honors

The Augustana volleyball team had five players recognized by the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference as the 2008 All-NSIC Volleyball Team was announced today.

Seniors Lisa Hoegh and Cayla Schroeder were named to the all-conference team, while senior Kati Newgard, junior Ellen Andrews and sophomore Beth Talcott received honorable mention recognition.

Hoegh, a setter from Byron, Minn., led the team with 1,307 assists and 33 service aces. She also recorded 77 kills and 262 digs this season. In the NSIC statistics, Hoegh is second in the league in assists (11.89 aps).

Schroeder, an outside hitter from Kasson, Minn., is the Vikings' top hitter and defender with a team-high 347 kills and 430 digs. She ranks eighth in the NSIC in kills (3.15 kps) and 10th in digs (3.92 dps).

For Hoegh and Schroder, it is the second time they have earned all-conference first team honors. They were named to the 2007 All-North Central Conference Team last season.

Newgard, a middle blocker from Pipestone, Minn., is second on the team with 311 kills and leads the team with 70 total blocks.

Andrews, a right side hitter from Bancroft, Neb., racked up 272 kills, 68 blocks and 54 digs this season. A 2007 All-NCC selection, she leads the Vikings with a .301 attack percentage.

Talcott, a sophomore from Omaha, Neb., enjoyed a strong first season in the Augie starting lineup. She is the third on the team with 286 kills and 279 digs.

Augustana is 20-10 this season and ranked No. 22 in the nation. The Vikings are currently tied for fourth place in the NSIC standings with a 12-5 league record with three matches to play this week.
