Cayla Schroeder, Ellen Andrews Named to Daktronics All-Region Second Team

Augustana College volleyball players Cayla Schroeder and Ellen Andrews have been named to the 2008 Daktronics, Inc., All-Central Region Volleyball Second Team in a vote of the region's sports information directors.

Schroeder, a senior outside hitter from Kasson, Minn., was named to the second team for the second consecutive season. She led the team in kills with 401, averaging 3.21 kills per set. In addition, she averaged 3.95 digs per set to lead the Vikings. She also had 45 blocks, 20 service aces and 28 set assists this season as she earned All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference First Team honors.

EllenAndrews
Andrews, a junior right side hitter from Bancroft, Neb., had a team-best .312 attack percentage this year while ranking third on the squad in kills with 338 (2.82 kills per set). She also tied for the team lead with 77 total blocks. Andrews garnered All-NSIC Second Team honors in 2008.

Schroeder and Andrews helped Augustana to a 23-11 record in 2008. The Vikings tied for third place in the NSIC regular season standings and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth-straight season. At regionals, the 22nd-ranked Vikings lost a five-set thriller to Nebraska-Kearney in the opening round.

Regional champion Concordia-St. Paul placed three players on the first team, including Player of the Year Maggie McNamara, a junior setter. Out of the 15 players selected to the two teams, 12 were from NSIC schools.
