The Augustana volleyball team has signed two members of the 2009 recruiting class, head coach
Ashley Buckley announced today.
Lindsey Petersen of Elkhart, Iowa and
Holly Hafemeyer of Faribault, Minn. have signed national letters of intent to attend Augustana and play volleyball for the Vikings.
Petersen, a 5-10 outside hitter, is a three-year starter and letterwinner at Ankeny High School. She helped lead the Hawks to back-to-back state championships in her junior and senior seasons. The team posted a 78-2 record during that period. She is a two-time All-Iowa State Tournament team member.
As a senior Petersen recorded 141 service aces, 191 kills, 28 blocks and 170 digs for the Hawks, earning her All-Central Iowa Metro League First Team honors. In her junior season she was named to the All-CIML Second Team with 125 service aces, 199 kills, 12 blocks, and 196 digs.
Hafemeyer is a 6-2 middle who has earned four letters and started four years for Bethlehem Academy. She helped the Cardinals to two Minnesota Class A State Championships (2009, 2007) and two State Runner-up finishes (2008, 2006). She is a four-time All-Minnesota State Tournament Team member.
As a senior, Hafemeyer recorded 476 kills with a .423 hitting percentage and 84 blocks. This earned her Minnesota Class A Player of the Year honors as well as her second All-State First Team selection. She also recorded 445 kills, 85 blocks, and 29 aces as a junior. Also a standout in the classroom, Hafemayer is a four-time Academic All-State selection.
Hafemeyer is also a four-year letterwinner in track and a two-year letterwinner in basketball.
"We are excited for Holly and Lindsey to join our program in the fall," Buckley said. "Both players have experienced a lot of success in high school and come from winning programs. They led their respective teams to state championships which means that they work hard and are accustomed to winning under pressure. I'm looking forward to their careers at Augustana and feel that they will be solid additions to our roster."
The Augustana volleyball team just finished a 14-18 season. They were 9-11 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play and finished in seventh place in conference play.
