DO NOT USE
High school standout Cameron McCaffrey of Portland, Ore., has signed a national letter of intent to attend Augustana College and play for the men’s basketball team, Viking head coach Tom Billeter announced today.

McCaffrey is a 6-2 point guard who lettered four times and started for three seasons at Century High School. As a senior, McCaffrey averaged 25 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds a game for a Jaguar team that went 22-8 and finished second in the state.

McCaffrey scored 733 points this past season, which is the 12th-highest single-season point total in Oregon history. He was named Player of the Year in the Northwest Oregon Conference, while earning Class 5A All-State honors, as well as making the Class 5A All-State Tournament Team.

"Cameron is a very good point guard who plays the game at a very high pace, he is always attacking and pushing the ball," Billeter said. "My assistant coach, Jayden Olson, did a great job finding Cameron and our players did a very good job of making him feel a part of the team on his visit.

"Cameron is very competitive and fears nothing, I really like his toughness and tenacity," Billeter added. "Scott Kellar, his high school coach, does a great job. They have been to the Oregon state tournament the last three years, finishing second this past season. Cameron is a winner, leading his team to a 67-17 record the past three seasons. He is going to be a great addition to our team and fans will enjoy watching him play."

As a junior, McCaffrey averaged 18 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds for a 25-3 team that finished seventh at the state tournament. As a result, McCaffrey was named to the All-State Second Team and All-State Tournament Second Team.

In 2006-07 he averaged 14 points to go with 5 assists and 2 rebounds per contest to earn All-League second team honors for a 20-6 squad.

McCaffrey also competed and lettered for two seasons in track and field.

McCaffrey is the second high school standout to sign with the Vikings. He joins Brennan Olson of Luck, Wis., in the 2009-10 recruiting class.

Augustana is coming off a 21-10 season in 2008-09. The Vikings advanced to the NCAA Division II Central Regional Championships for the second consecutive season after defeated St. Cloud State and Winona State before falling to Southwest Minnesota State in the regional finals.
