The St. Paul Saints of the American Association League officially added Augustana assistant baseball coach Mark Moriarty to its roster on Monday afternoon.
Moriarty, an alumni of St. Scholastica College in Duluth, Minn. replaces Tanner Scheppers on the roster, who is readying himself for the Major League Baseball draft on Tuesday.
He pitched for the St. Scholastica Saints from 2004-07 where he finished his career with a 2.80 ERA and earned 23 wins, which is a tie for fourth place all-time in St. Scholastica baseball history. He also recorded 257 strikeouts, which is the second most in school history and made a school record 52 appearances.
He earned All-Upper Midwest Conference honors three years and All-America honors in 2006. In his final season, Moriarty was third team NCAA Division III All-Region selection and was ranked 10th in the country with 10.8 strikeouts per nine innings. He finished the 2007 season 8-2 with a team-high 68 strikeouts.
Moriarty is entering his second year as the assistant pitching coach for the Viking baseball team after helping the Vikings’ pitching staff improve the team ERA by 1.44 points in his first season in 2009.
