Augustana Men Recognized as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

The Augustana men's track and field program is one of 27 Division II men's track and field programs across the nation to be recognized as 2009 USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Teams, the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced today.

The Vikings had the third-highest cumuluative grade point average in the nation during the 2008-09 year with a 3.270 GPA. The University of Tampa was first at 3.390 while the University of the Incarnate Word was second at 3.314.

The selection of the All-Academic Indoor and Outdoor Scholar Teams of the Year award is based on a combination of academic and athletic achievements, with the top honor going to the team that had the combination of best overall finish at the respective Division II Indoor or Outdoor National Championships and cumulative GPA. Ashland University was cited as the Scholar Team of the Year after finishing fourth at the indoor national meet and sixth at the outdoor national meet.

To be nominated, a team must carry a minimum 3.000 cumulative grade-point average.

Augustana was one of only two Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schools recognized as an All-Academic team. Bemidji State was the other NSIC school honored.
