The Augustana athletic department today announced its 2010 football schedule. The schedule consists of six home games and five road games.
The Vikings, coming off its second-straight 8-win season, will play a 10-game Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schedule. Augustana's only non-conference game will be its season-opening contest. The Vikings are scheduled to entertain fellow NSIC member St. Cloud State on Saturday, September 4, at 1 p.m. at Kirkeby-Over Stadium.
The game will be the debut of first-year head coach Mike Aldrich.
Augustana and St. Cloud State faced each other in NSIC play the past two seasons, but the Vikings and Huskies, which are in different divisions within the NSIC, are not scheduled to face each other in league play the next two seasons.
Following its game against St. Cloud State, Augustana, which is in the NSIC South Division, will face NSIC North Division foe Bemidji State on September 11 in Bemidji, Minn. The Vikings return home to face U-Mary and Southwest Minnesota State in two home games.
Augustana opens October with a road game at Concordia-St. Paul on October 2. The following week, October 9, Augie returns home to face in-state rival Northern State in a Viking Days showdown. The Vikings then go back on the road the next two weeks at Winona State and MSU Moorhead before they face Minnesota State at home on October 30.
Rounding out the schedule is a road game at Wayne State on November 6 and a home game against Upper Iowa on November 13.
Augustana posted an 8-4 overall record and a 7-3 record in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. It was the Vikings' second-straight 8-4 season and tied the school record for wins in a season. The Vikings tied for third place in the NSIC overall standings and were second in the NSIC Southern Division. Augustana capped its season by appearing in the Mineral Water Bowl for the second consecutive season.
