The Augustana College wrestling team dropped to the No. 2 spot in the fourth regular season Super Regional 3 wrestling rankings which were released today.
The Vikings, ranked No. 2 in the preseason poll and No. 1 for the last three weeks, dropped to No. 2 after an eighth-place finish at the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals.
Augustana accumulated 60 points, earning them the No. 2 spot behind No.1 Upper Iowa, who had 62 points. St. Cloud State also dropped one spot, falling from second to No. 3 with 47 points. Minnesota State retained its No. 4 ranking by collecting 37 points.
Points are figured based on the top 5 individuals in each weight class. The No. 1 wrestler received 10 points, second received 7 points, third received 4 points, fourth received 2 points and fifth received 1 point.
The Vikings have 3 wrestlers ranked No. 1 in their respective weight classes, and have a wrestler in the top six in every weight class.
Earning No. 1 rankings for the Vikings are
Nate Herda at 149 pounds,
Marcus Edgington at 157 pounds and
Ty Copsey at 197 pounds. Herda is off to a 16-6 start, while Edgington is 20-3 and Copsey is 9-2.
At 125 pounds,
Al Meger is ranked No. 3, while
Laramie Shaffer is holding down the No. 2 spot at 133 pounds.
Jay Sherer is No. 2 at 141 pounds while
Gavin Nelson and Cark Serck are No. 3 at 165 pounds and 174 pounds, respectively.
Nick Henning is No. 3 at 184 pounds and
Lance Peters is No. 6 in the 285-pound weight class.
The Vikings will compete this weekend at St. Cloud State on Friday before travelling to Mankato, Minn. to take on Minnesota State on Saturday.
