The Augustana men's basketball team is ranked fourth, while the women are sixth in the first NCAA Division II Central Regional Rankings announced today.
In the men's rankings, Augustana (16-2, 9-2 NSIC) are No. 4, coming in behind conference foe Minnesota State. The Vikings beat then-third-ranked Minnesota State last weekend after knocking off Southwest Minnesota State, but the Mavericks continue to boast a better overall record, with their only loss coming at the hands of the Vikings.
The Augie women (15-3, 9-2 NSIC) start out at No. 6, behind Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference rivals, Minnesota Duluth at No. 5, MSU Moorhead at No. 4 and Concordia-St. Paul at No. 2. The Vikings have one loss to each of these schools. The Vikings were 2-0 last weekend, knocking off Southwest Minensota State and Minnesota State.
The top 8 teams in region advance to the Central Regional Championships, which are scheduled for March 13-16.
Both the men and women will be on the road this weekend, playing Concordia-St. Paul in St. Paul, Minn. on Friday night. The women tipoff at 6 p.m. while the men are scheduled for 8 p.m. On Saturday, both teams will play at St. Cloud State, with the women's game starting at 4 p.m. and the men at 6 p.m.
