Augustana is now 3-3 on the season.
The Vikings played Morningside on Friday night, and won the first game, 10-0, thanks to a huge fifth inning.
Deryk Marks scored for the Vikings in the first, and
Dan Morrison crossed the plate in the fourth, giving Augie a 2-0 lead going into the fifth.
Nate Baumann led the inning off with a walk before advancing to second on a wild pitch, and
Drew Heithoff was hit by a pitch. A single by Marks scored Baumann, and Heithoff stole third.
Marks stole second before Morrison was walked and
Gates Cook scored Heithoff with a single.
Brian Knight reached on an error by the pitcher, and a single by Chris Glenn scored Morrison and
Chris Ward, who pinch ran for Cook.
Still in the fifth, Baumann hit a single, and both Knight and Glynn would score before the inning was over, making the score 9-0.
A home run by Ward in the seventh made the final 10-0.
Derek Hansen got the win for the Vikings, pitching five innings and only allowing two hits.
Morningside started game two with a run in the first. Marks was walked and advanced to second on a single by
Charlie Dubanoski and then advanced to third on the throw.
Morrison was walked before a single by Hansen scored both Marks and Dubanoski. Morrison stole home to make the score 3-1.
Ward scored in the second off of a single by Baumann.
Hansen led the fourth off with a double, and advanced to third on a single by
Clarke Comer. Ward successfully completed a squeeze play, scoring Hansen. The pitcher was unable to make the play at the plate, allowing Ward to still reach first base.
A single by Hewes advanced the runners, and Comer scored on a sacrifice fly by Heithoff. A single by Marks scored Ward.
Morningside would score another run in the fifth, and
Nate Hewes scored in the sixth on a pass ball.
Per Nestigen recorded the win for the Vikings, allowing two runs in five innings pitched.
Marks was 3 for 5 in the double-header, scoring three runs and recording three RBI. Ward was 3 for 4 with two RBI.
Augie then played Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday, and got off to a rough start, allowing the Lopers to score eight runs in the first inning.
Dubanoski led the second off with a double, and scored on a single by Hansen.
The Lopers scored in the fourth and again in the fifth, but Augie scored two runs of their own in the fifth. Marks reached on a fielder's choice and then advanced to second on a pass ball. Dubanoski walked and Marks scored on a Hansen single. A single by
Corey Johnson scored Dubanoski.
But Augie wouldn't score again, and two more runs by the Lopers in the sixth inning made the final score 12-3.
Pierson suffered the loss for the Vikings, allowing nine runs on seven hits in four innings.
Augie was able to rebound in the second game, and Baumann led off with a walk before stealing second and advancing to third on a wild pitch. A sacrifice fly by Heithoff scored Baumann.
The Vikings scored again in the third, with both Baumann and Heithoff hitting singles. Both crossed the plate on a single by Hansen, making the score 3-1
Augie had a big fifth inning, with Marks blasting a homerun. Dubanoski singled before Morrison was hit by a pitch and Ward was walked. Comer scored all three with a double.
The Lopers scored two more runs in the seventh, but it wasn't enough, giving the Vikings the 7-3 victory.
Grant Larsen earned the win, going five innings and only allowing one run on four hits.
Dubanoski was 3 for 5 on the day, scoring three times.
Comer was 1 for 1 with three RBI.
The Vikings will be back on the road next weekend, traveling to Springfield, Mo. for games against Drury and Wayne State (Michigan).
