Augustana mens' basketball standout
Cody Schilling has been named to the 2009-10 NABC Division II All-Central District First Team, the National Association of Baskeball Coaches announced today.
Schilling, a sophomore from Ellsworth, Minn., was one of six players, all of whom are from Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, named to the first team. In addition, he is the only sophomore named to the first team. The teams were selected by a vote of the district's head coaches.
Schilling was Augustana's leading scorer and rebounder this past season as he averaged 15.3 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. An All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference First Team selection, Schilling compiled 10 games in which he scored over 20 points. In NSIC overall statistics, Schilling was 12th in the league in scoring and 11th in rebounding.
The 2008-09 NSIC Freshman of the Year, Schilling was a key force in the Vikings run to the NCAA Division II Central Regional Championship game. In three regional tournament games, He averaged 19.7 points and 7 rebounds per contest. Twice he scored over 20 points, and as a result, was named to the all-tournament team.
Schilling helped lead Augustana to its most successful season in school history. The Vikings finished the year with a 24-7 overall record, setting a school record for regular season wins (22) and overall wins (24). It also was the program's third-straight 20-win season and third-straight NCAA tournament appearance, both program firsts.
