Gretta Melsted has announced that former Central Region and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conferece Player of the Year
Kelsey Thompson has joined the Viking staff as graduate assistant coach for the upcoming season.
Thompson is a 2010 graduate of Minnesota State, Mankato, where she was a two-year letterwinner with Mavericks. During senior season at MSU, the catcher racked up a laundry list of accolades, including being named NSIC Player of the Year, All-NSIC first team, Daktronics All-America second team, Louisville Slugger/American Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America second team, Daktronics Central Region Player of the Year, Daktronics All-Central Region and Louisville Slugger NFCA All-Central Region first team. She hit .431 with 14 RBIs and 11 home runs as a senior.
Thompson earned her degree from MSU in exercise science with a sports medicine minor. Prior to her time at MSU, Thompson spent two years at St. Cloud State.
Augustana finished the 2010 season as the NSIC Champion, posting an overall record of 46-14 and conference mark of 23-3. Melsted was named NSIC Coach of the Year, while
Ashley Meyer was named NSIC Newcomer of the Year. The Vikings qualified for the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the region final before being eliminated by Wayne State (Neb.).
