2011-12 SCHEDULE
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana's men's basketball team opens the 2011-12 season Nov. 7 in Minneapolis against the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. Game time for the exhibition contest is yet to be determined.
Last season, the Gophers were 6-12 in Big Ten Conference play and 17-13 overall.
Following the exhibition contest, coach
Tom Billeter's Vikings launch a string of four non-conference games beginning Nov. 15 against the University of Sioux Falls. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. at the Sioux Falls Arena.
Augustana is competing in the Western Oregon Classic Nov. 18-19 in Monmouth, Ore. The Vikings are scheduled to play St. Martin's (Wash.) and Western Oregon. Game times are to be determined.
The Vikings conclude their non-conference schedule on Nov. 22, hosting Dakota State in the Elmen Center at 7 p.m.
Augustana inaugurates its 22-game Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schedule Dec. 2-3 hosting Southwest Minnesota State and defending league champion Minnesota State.
Following Dec. 9-10 road games at U-Mary and Northern State, the Vikings cap the 2011 portion of the schedule December 17-18 at home against the Minnesota, Crookston, and MSU Moorhead.
The New Year begins Jan. 2-3 for the Vikings with visits to St. Cloud State and Concordia University, St. Paul. On Jan. 7-8, Billeter's crew begins a three-game homestand against Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth. Wayne State will be the Vikings' guest on Jan. 14.
Augustana takes to the road for Jan. 20-21 stops at Upper Iowa and Winona State, before ending the month at home Jan. 27-28 against SCSU and CU.
Feb. 3-4 finds the Vikings on the road at SMSU and Minnesota State. It's back to Sioux Falls to face the U-Mary and NSU Feb. 10-11.
The Vikings wrap up the regular season with three road games – Feb. 18 at WSC, Feb. 24 at UMC and Feb. 25 at MSUM.
The top eight teams in the NSIC qualify for the conference tournament scheduled to begin Feb. 29.
Last season Augustana posted a15-7 record to capture third place in the final NSIC standings. The Vikings were 18-9 overall.
