SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana soccer team announced that they will hold the inaugural Augustana College Vikings Futsal Challenge for regional soccer players to participate in. The challenge will take place from Dec. 28 through Dec. 30.
More information about the challenge can be found
here and registration only runs through Dec. 5.
Augustana head coach
Brandon Barkus expressed that the success and enjoyment of Futsal in the Augie Academy is what drove the decision to hold the tournament. Five different age divisions are available and each registered team will be guaranteed three games.
Futsal is a variation of soccer played on a smaller field, usually indoors, with five players to a team (one of which is a goalkeeper), and a slightly different ball. Futsal is popular worldwide due to its emphasis on creativity and improvisation while the smaller ball with less bounce and hard playing surface highlight different techniques than in traditional soccer.
