LINCOLN, Neb. - Augustana took control early in its match against Nebraska Wesleyan, earning all three doubles wins, and went on to pick up six-straight singles victories to defeat the Prairie Wolves 9-0 Saturday.
It's the first dual of the spring for the Vikings as they improve to 2-0 on the season. NWU falls to 1-3.
Katie Jesperson and
Michelle Wadas won 8-2 for Augustana at No. 1 doubles.
At No. 2,
Hannah Gebauer and
Heather Sullivan snuck in a 9-7 victory.
Jessica Spalding and
Jenna Helleberg teamed together at the third spot to edge their opponents 8-4.
Jesperson eased to 6-0, 6-0 victory at the top singles position, while Spalding cruised to her 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6.
No. 2 Wadas beat Terah Maloley 6-2, 6-2 and Gebauer earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3.
Sullivan (6-1, 6-1) and Lewis (6-4, 6-1) rounded out the Vikings' wins at the fourth and fifth spots.
In exhibition play, Helleberg earned a 8-1 victory over Alex Springman.
Augustana is at Gustavus Adolphus next Saturday.
