DENVER - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announced Monday
Derek Hansen has been named its Central Region Pitcher of the Year and all-region first team, while
David Borchardt has been placed on the All-Central Region honorable-mention squad.
Hansen, a junior from Fergus Falls, Minn., was the NSIC Pitcher of the Year and an all-conference first-team selection at both pitcher and first base. He landed on the NCBWA All-Central Region first team as both a pitcher and utility player. The right-hander went 7-4 with a 1.60 earned-run average this season, striking out a school-record 103 batters in just 67.2 innings. Opponents were limited to a .181 batting average, and he allowed just one home run all year. As a first baseman, he batted .363 with 37 RBIs, 31 runs, 10 doubles and seven home runs. He also stole 11 bases.
A junior from St. Michael, Minn., Borchardt was named All-NSIC second team earlier this month. He batted .335 with 14 doubles and a team-best 14 homers. Borchardt also drove in 37 runs and stole 11 bases.
Hansen and all other first-team selections advance to the NCBWA All-America ballot.
Augustana compiled its third-straight 30 win season in 2012, finishing 32-21. The Vikings tied for fourth in the NSIC with a conference mark of 22-12.
