Leland, Kirby headline NSIC postseason awards

BURNSVILLE, Minn. - Augustana head coach Peggy Kirby and student-athletes Maggie Leland, Emily Kvidera and Allie Ostrander all earned Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference postseason awards announced Tuesday by the league office.

Kirby was named the NSIC Coach of the Year, Leland was tabbed the NSIC Golfer of the Year and All-NSIC and Kvidera and Ostrander collected all-conference honors.

Kirby picked up conference coach of the year accolades for the third-consecutive season and fourth time in her career.  Her last three awards have come in the NSIC, while she was named North Central Conference Coach of the Year in 2007-08.  Kirby mentored her squad to its third-straight NSIC and Central Region titles in 2011-12.  She's also had the Vikings nationally ranked this season.

Leland, a sophomore from Alexandria, Minn., won the NSIC Championship by five strokes.  She leads the NSIC with a 74.8 stroke average and has three tournament wins this season.  Leland was named the NSIC Golfer of the Week on five separate occasions during the season. She was the 2010-11 NSIC Newcomer of the Year and also picked up All-NSIC honors a year ago.

A junior from Blaine, Minn., Kvidera is on the all-conference team for the third time.  She owns a 78.5 stroke average and has won two tournaments this season.  Kvidera finished third at the NSIC Championship to grab all-tournament team honors.  She was named NSIC Golfer of the Week on April 18.

Ostrander, a sophomore, holds a 78.8 average in 2011-12.  The Glenwood, Minn., native won the NSIC/Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Crossover in October and was the runner-up at the conference tournament, which landed her on the all-tournament team.  Ostander picked up NSIC Golfer of the Week laurels on Oct. 4.

No. 21 Augustana will make its fifth-straight appearance at the NCAA Championships Wednesday through Saturday at the Persimmon Ridge Country Club in Louisville, Ky.
