No. 21 Vikings log improved round, stay in 10th at nationals

ROUND 2 RESULTS

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -
No. 21 Augustana shot a 329 Thursday at the NCAA Championships to retain its 10th-place position with a two-day total of 663.

The Vikings shaved 11 strokes off their opening-round performance Wednesday at the Persimmon Ridge Golf Course.

Emily Kvidera, who entered the day tied for 12th, moved into a tie for ninth after shooting a 4-over-par 76 on Thursday for a two-round score of 11-over 155.

Nova Southeastern is still in first place, but the Sharks, who are at 614, have widened their lead over  Florida Southern to 15 strokes.  NSU's Daniela Ortiz carded an even-par 72 on Thursday and moved into first with a 3-over 145.  She is two shots ahead of teammate Abbey Gittings.

All five Viking golfers improved their scores in the second round. 

Allie Ostrander  turned in a 9-over 81 on Thursday and is tied for 25th at 19-over 163.  Her second-round outing was one shot better than the first 18.   Maggie Leland, who is tied for 28th, slashed six strokes off her opening-round effort, coming in at 7-over 79 for a two-round score of 20-over 164.

Jennifer Benoy is tied for 67th at 43-over 187.  She charted a 21-over 93 on Thursday--one stroke better than Wednesday.  Kelsey Bortnem is in 70th place with a 54-over 198.  She registered an 23-over 95 but took eight shots off her opening-round score.

Augustana is making its fifth-straight appearance at the NCAA Championships; the program's best finish came in 2007-08 when Peggy Kirby's team placed eighth.

The four-round tournament runs through Saturday.
