SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Jamall Taylor, an all-state player from Milwaukee, Wis., has signed a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic career at Augustana beginning in 2012-13, head coach
Tom Billeter announced Wednesday.
The 6-foot-3, 180-pound guard prepped at Dominican High School in Whitefish Bay, Wis., where he was a four-year letterwinner and starter. Taylor was ranked the 15th-best high school recruit in the state by Wisconsin Sports Network.
Taylor averaged 21.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game as a senior en route to collecting all-conference, all-area, all-suburban and all-state accolades. He also earned player of the week honors from five different organizations during his senior campaign while leading his squad to the Wisconsin Class D4 state title.
As a junior, Taylor averaged 17.5 points, 4.5 boards and 3.5 assists per contest. Honors included all-conference and all-area nods. He scored 11.4 points and grabbed 3.5 rebounds per outing as a sophomore.
“Jamall is one of the more highly ranked players in Wisconsin, and he was a major reason his team won the state title this past season,” Billeter said. “He is as good a shooter as we have seen all year and has the ability to become a very good defender. He has outstanding leadership skills and comes from a great family.”
Taylor joins Daniel Jansen (Orange City, Iowa), Zach Huisken (Chandler, Minn.), Jack Preston (Basingstoke, Hampshire, England), Casey Schilling (Ellsworth, Minn.), Tanner Odegaard (Brookings, S.D.), Branden Stubbs (Pleasant Hill, Iowa) and Joe Burt (St. Cloud, Minn.) in Billeter's 2012-13 recruiting class.
Taylor (No. 15 by Wisconsin Sports Network), Jansen (No. 7 by Iowa Preps) and Huisken (No. 8 by North Star Hoops) were the top-rated players in their respective states to choose Division II programs.
Augustana made its 10th appearance in the NCAA tournament in 2011-12 and finished the season 17-11. The Vikings tied for fourth in the NSIC with a 14-8 conference mark.
Located in Sioux Falls, S.D., Augustana College is a member of NCAA Division II and competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
