ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Augustana's TJ North (125 pounds) and Jayd Docken (197 pounds) went 2-0 on the first day at the NCAA Wrestling Championships. Both advanced to the semifinals on Friday. Michael Lowman's season came to a close as he lost by two decisions on the first day of the national meet.
 
North opened the tournament facing off against Schuyler Phillips of Findlay. The junior from Elk Point, S.D. never let his opponent have a chance, North recorded a takedown in every period keeping Phillips's limited shots at bay to earn a 12-1 major decision for his 19th consecutive win.
 
In the quarterfinals, North showed off his No. 1 ranking in style once again recording his second major decision of the day over Dustin Warner of Wheeling Jesuit. The junior is set to take on No. 7 Joshua Kieffer of Indianapolis when action begins tomorrow at 10 a.m. CST.

No. 5 Docken opened the tournament dominating the 197-pound bout with a 6-3 decision over Tyler Richardson of East Stroudsburg. With the task at hand, Docken entered the quarterfinals to battle against No. 1 Samuel Mangum of Western State. Docken earned an early escape in the second period to lead Mangum 1-0 to head into the third period. Mangum earned a quick escape but was called for stalling with eight second left in the period to give Docken the 2-1 victory.
 
Lowman lost a one-point decision in his opening bout which placed him into the consolation bracket. A low scoring affair between Augustana's 285 pounder and No. 2 Tiffin's Garrett Grey ended in Lowman losing 2-1.
 
In the first round of the consolation bracket, Lowman squared off against Nick Budd of Gannon. Lowman battled the whole match coming out victorious with a 2-0 decision. Lowman kept his momentum into the next round battling against Chris Giddens of UNC Pembroke. A late takedown from Giddens gave him the 3-1 advantage. Lowman's season comes to an end with a 30-13 record.
 
Action resumes tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. CST with North taking on Indianapolis's Joshua Kieffer in the semifinals.
