SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana senior 
CJ Ham opened day one of the Vance Butler Memorial Invitational with a top-five finish in the men's hammer throw on Thursday.
The Duluth, Minn. native took fourth with a heave of 49.84 meters to open day one of the meet. Chris Reed, competing unattached, took the top mark in the men's hammer throw with a heave of 59.55 meters.
In the women's hammer throw, Madison McLaughlin of Black Hills State took first-place with a heave of 48.39 meters.
The rest of the Vikings will compete tomorrow at Howard Wood Field with the discus throw getting underway at 10 a.m.
