ABERDEEN, S.D. – Augustana College sophomore Melissa Barella opened the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference/US Outdoor Track and Field Multi-Event Championships placing 11th after day one on Sunday. 

With three events remaining in the heptathlon, Barella sits at 11th place with a score of 2,430 points. Barella cruised in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.95, followed by a clearance of 1.53 meter (5 feet, 0.25 inches) in the high jump. The Centennial, Colo. native rounded out her day one action with a heave of 7.77 meters (25 feet, 6 inches) in the shot put and finished with a mark of 27.51 in the 200-meter dash.

The NSIC Multi Championships will wrap up tomorrow with three events remaining in the women's heptathlon. The women's long jump is the first event that will get underway with a start time of 10:15 a.m. at Swisher Field.
