Seivert breaks NSIC record after day one at the NSIC Championships

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana's Leah Seivert set a new Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference record on day one of the 2015 NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by the University of Sioux Falls. The women tallied 22 points to sit in sixth-place, while the men recorded 27 points placing fifth.

Seivert battled against Northern State's Sash Hovind, but broke away the final two laps to set a new NSIC record, and win the women's 10,000-meter run to open the conference championships on Friday. The Sibley, Iowa native clocked a time of 34:55.57 to shatter the 35:27.70 record ran by Minnesota Duluth's Morgan Place set back in 2010. Meritxell Delgado (35:45.46) and Annie Kruse (37:29.92) added eight more points with a third and eighth-place finish to give Augustana's women's squad 17 points after one event.
 
Paul Yak completed the sweep with a dominating performance in the men's 10K to win the event and finished his 25 laps in 31:07. Adam Braun came in third with a time of 31:19. Keegan Carda and Glen Ellingson finished seventh and eighth to give the Viking men 19 points with only one event into the meet.

In the women's high jump, Kelsey Kaufmann placed fourth with a clearance of 1.62 meters, while Mason Ford took eighth in the men's high jump with a clearance of 1.98 meters.

CJ Ham dominated the hammer throw once again this season placing fifth with a toss of 52.33 meters.

Eight Viking women qualified for the finals on day two led by Emma Anderson qualifying in two events. Anderson clocked a time of 4:49.36 in the 1,500-meter run to place second while Kaitlyn Yoerg took third in their heat with a time of 4:49.83. Anderson then qualified for her second event after clocking a time of 2:17. 97 for a runner-up finish in the 800-meter run.

The women look to score big in the 100- and 400-meter hurdles with four runners making the cut to advance to the finals tomorrow.

Anne Parsley finished with the second-fastest time in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.42 to automatically qualify her for the finals tomorrow. Carina Hofmeister won her heat in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.88.

Six men secured a spot in the finals on day two in four different events. Harald Karbo finished fifth in the 1,500-meter with a new personal-best time of 4:00.85.
 
Ryan Heuer (14.97) and Dylon Van't Hof (15.26) logged the sixth- and eighth-best times in the men's 110-meter hurdles to have a chance to win the event on day two. Three Vikings remain alive in the 400-meter hurdles with Heuer placing second with a time of 53.97. Zach Jones (54.99) and Jason Greenway (55.09) place fourth, and fifth, respectively.

The 2015 NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Championships will conclude tomorrow with the field events scheduled for an 11 a.m. start and the track events slotted to begin at 1 p.m.
