Men's basketball earns NABC Team Academic Excellence Award; two individuals named to Honors Court

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches announced its team and individual academic awards and Augustana men's basketball earned the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award and had two individuals named to the NABC Honors Court.
 
Seniors Adam Beyer and Austin Saugstad were named to the NABC Honors Court.
 
The Team Academic Excellence Award recognizes outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better from the 2016-17 season. For an individual to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior varsity player with a GPA of 3.2 or higher.
 
Saugstad, from Marshall, Minnesota, was a three-time Academic All-NSIC honoree for the Vikings as a biology major. Saugstad played in 32 games in 2016-17 and shot 48.5 percent from the field while handing out 36 assists. He played in 107 career games at Augustana and was a member of back-to-back NSIC Championship teams, including the 2015-16 National Championship squad.
 
Beyer, from De Pere, Wisconsin, started all 33 games in 2016-17 season for the Vikings, averaging 12.4 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He dished out 2.3 assists per game and shot 55.6 percent from the field, including 49.4 percent from 3-point range. Beyer played in 133 career games, making 122 starts, averaging 9.0 points and 4.1 rebounds per game in four seasons. He finished his career as a 52.9 percent shooter, including 45.8 percent from 3-point range.
 
Augustana men's basketball made its 14th overall and third straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2016-17. The Vikings finished 24-9, advancing to the NCAA Central Region Tournament semifinal for the third straight year. Augustana has won 20-plus games seven times in the last 10 years, including three straight seasons.
 
Located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Augustana University is a member of NCAA Division II and competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
