Viking Track and Field Back in Mankato for NSIC Challenge

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana track and field teams resume competition Saturday at the NSIC Challenge in Mankato, Minnesota. Currently, the women are ranked second in the Central Region while the men are ranked No. 11. 

The Event
The Minnesota State Mavericks are set to host the event inside Myers Field House. Field events are slated for an 11 a.m. start followed by track events at noon. The full schedule of events can be found here.

Also competing this weekend are the 3K and 5K runners for Augustana at the SDSU Indoor Classic on Friday in Brookings, South Dakota. 

Last Time Out
Last weekend at the NDSU Bison Open in Fargo, North Dakota, the Vikings took home three first-place finishes, one by the men and two by the women.

"Both the men's and women's teams are off to a strong start this indoor season," junior distance runner Carly Rahn said. "We've made a lot of progress in the last couple of weeks, but we are dedicated to working even harder and fine-tuning our performances as the NSIC Conference Championship approaches. We are excited to have the opportunity to compete against talented competitors in our conference at the NSIC Challenge meet this weekend and measure where our team is at this point in the season.
 
Who To Watch For
Sophomore Tyl Woelber had a monster weekend for the Vikings at the NDSU Bison Open. Woelber won the heptathlon with a personal record 5,235 points which placed him at 10th on the NCAA Division II standings for heptathlon scores. 
 
Woelber won the heptathlon with a first-place finish in the 60 meter dash (7.18), third-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 6.88m (22-7), third place finish in the shot put with a distance of 12.86m (42-2.25), first-place finish in the high jump with a height of 2.04m (6-8.25), first-place finish in the 60 meter hurdles (8.43), 13th-place finish in the pole vault with a height of 3.65m (11-11.75) and fifth-place finish in the 1,000m (2:53.17).
