Viking Tennis Completes Homestand with Winona State and Upper Iowa

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana women's tennis team completes its four-match homestand Saturday and Sunday hosting Winona State and Upper Iowa, respectively. Saturday's contest is slated for 6 p.m. while Sunday's will start at 9 a.m. The indoor home for Augustana tennis is GreatLIFE Woodlake Athletic Club.
 
The Warriors
Winona State is 2-0 in NSIC action after claiming a 6-1 win over St. Cloud State and a 7-0 sweep of Minnesota Duluth last weekend. The Warriors, tabbed third in the preseason NSIC poll, are led by senior Kendra Kappes, a three-time All-Conference recipient. She is 2-0 at No. 2 singles and has teamed with Rachel Kelly to own a 2-0 record at No. 2 doubles.
 
The Peacocks
Upper Iowa is 1-1 in NSIC play after splitting last weekend with the Huskies and Bulldogs. The Peacocks opened NSIC action with a 4-3 win over SCSU and fell 4-3 to UMD. UIU was tabbed 10th in the preseason NSIC coaches poll.
 
Shakhanaza Zhanatova, coupled with a pair of fall duals, owns a 4-0 record at No. 1 singles for Upper Iowa while Deimante Krivickaite is 4-0 at No. 2 singles. However, the pair owns just a 1-3 mark in doubles action.
 
The Vikings
Augustana is 5-0 in dual action and holds a 2-0 mark in NSIC action. The Vikings are one of five undefeated teams in the NSIC after the first weekend of conference action which saw them top Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State.
 
Augustana has five members of its team to have not lost a dual match this year led by freshman Emily Granson's 4-0 record. Senior Taylor Jackson and freshman Aleksandra Kistanova each hold a 3-0 mark while senior Rebecca Falkner is 2-0. Anca Rusu is 1-0 in singles action.
 
In doubles play, Rusu and Jackson hold a 4-0 record, one win at No. 1 doubles and three wins at No. 3 doubles.
 
One Last Thing
Junior Grace Goble is coming off a 2-0 weekend against the Beavers and Golden Eagles, earning her first victory at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0, over UMC. She followed up on Sunday at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-2, win over BSU.
