A soft touch and a long reach made Arvid Kramer a pivotal force during his Augustana basketball career.
The lanky farm kid from Fulda, Minn., was a collegiate achiever from the moment he first pulled on an Augie uniform. Three times in the late 1970s he was named to the all-North Central Conference team.
Many seasons have passed since Kramer last played for the Vikings, but he remains on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,642 points, and rebounding list with 892.
Augustana's 1977-78 team won the NCC championship with an 11-3 record. Kramer's contributions included leading scorer (490 points) and leading rebounder (264).
Kramer was voted the league's most valuable player for the 1977-78 season. During the 14-game schedule he led the league in rebounds (134), field goals (116) and field-goal percentage (.641).
After receiving the MVP award Kramer said, "it's an honor to have, but it's too blown up. They look at the individual at the end of the season, but not at the help from team members."
