Robert Walton of Moorhead, Minnesota, was a three-year letterwinner for the Viking football team from 1956 to '58. He was an all-conference selection in 1957 and 1958 playing end. Walton was a mid-year graduate of Sioux Falls Washington (January 1951), who spent four years in the U.S. Air Force before enrolling at Augustana.

In a 1957 story, Coach Bob Burns termed Walton as "the steadiest player on our squad." During the 1958 season, the Mirror quoated defensive coach Marv Rist as saying "Bob Walton is perhaps the best defensive end in the NCC." He was selected captain of bot hthe '57 and '58 teams. Bob was the 1959 Honor Athlete and he received the first Spitznagle Fine Arts Achievement Award.
