Brian Wolf’s personal saga has taken many paths, both as a student-athlete and a businessman.

He transferred to Augustana from Golden Valley Lutheran Junior College. With the Vikings he twice won the North Central Conference decathlon championship. Post graduation pursuits included bobsledding, sky diving, bull riding, shark spearing, pentathlon, Ironman Triathlon, and firefighter games. He is always looking for his next big challenge.

His business exploits include founding the Wolf Tax and Financial Group, teaching, coaching, speaking, writing, and consulting. In a nutshell, he’s busy.

Wolf, who graduated from Augustana in 1982, holds the school record for most points scored in the decathlon (7,111).  He claimed back-to-back NCC decathlon crowns in 1981 and 1982. He won the 400 intermediate hurdles at the 1982 NCC meet in 52.79 seconds and in 1981 with a time of  52.89.  He qualified for the 1981 and 1982 NCAA meets in the decathlon and 400 intermediate hurdles scoring points in both events, both years.

“My most memorable time was riding home from our conference meet and realizing that I had accomplished exactly what I had set out to do – win four conference titles in two years and be the leading point scorer in the conference. It was a time of praise, thankfulness, joy, and relief.”

But it was not the time to walk away from athletics.

In 1985 he placed fifth at the National Indoor Pentathlon Championships. He went on to set the American record for the fastest single run in US bobsled history and was the national bobsled two-man champion in 1987.  A volunteer fireman for four years, he won five gold medals at the 1996 World Fire Fighter Games.  At age 50, he entered and completed an Ironman Triathlon competition.

Away from sports, Wolf writes a column for the Herald Journal called “Insider Financial.” He teaches an insurance ethics course at Kaplan Professional Schools. He is the author of “Please Pass the Memories,” of which revered actress Betty White wrote, “A wonderful idea and a beautiful book!  The information is priceless for those left behind and how I wish it had been there in my grandma's time…the information and personal touches are invaluable."

Brian and his wife, Debbie, are the parents of Kevin, Justin, Brittani, Ashley, and Amanda.
