Candi Nielsen Musiel is the second former Armour (SD) High School basketball player to be joining the Hall of Fame this year. At the end of her outstanding basketball career in 1988, Candi was the career leader in blocked shots with 99, career leader in rebounds with 882, third in scoring with 1476 points, and second in steals with 217 and among the career leaders with 236 assists. A total player—yes, those statistics certainly say so. In the eleven years since she wore an Augie uniform, she has dropped only slightly in her career positions, with the lowest only at sixth.

As a junior, Candi led the team in scoring and steals with 559 points and nabbed 87 steals; those records are now fifth and third on the season charts, respectively. She was named All-NCC in 1987 and Academic All-NCC in 1988, and was named to four all-tournament teams, including MVP of the American Family Classic at UMD in 1986.

Candi was on the Dean's List and was the 1988 College Women Honor Athlete presented by the Chamber's Sports and Recreation Committee/FCA. She was also a student speaker at the Fellows/Booster Club dinner in March 1988.

Candi told of 6 AM runs in the dark to the Old Gym to lift. One morning another player pulled the pin on the leg press and moved it to a much lighter weight. Candi, thinking of pushing 200 pounds, thrust out her legs with great strength only to have steel foot holders come crashing down on her shins. "I was rushed to Dr. Oakland for stitches," she wrote.

An English major, Candi wrote that "...everyone at Augie contributed to my positive experience in one way or another. I truly appreciated the community atmosphere and family flavor at Augie."
