Carl E. Boe was a four year letterman in both football and basketball for the Vikings in the 1922-26 era. He lettered in baseball in 1923 and was a member of the track squad for two seasons. He played guard on the grid team his first three seasons and was named to the all-conference team as a junior. He was switched to center for his senior year.

In basketball he became a starter at guard as a freshman and was elected team captain as a sophomore. Sketchy records show that he was the starting second baseman in baseball and was regarded as a "heavy hitter." In track Boe threw the javelin and ran the 200-yard dash.

He was the student body president and as associate editor of the student newspaper. He was salutatorian of his graduating class and was selected to represent Augustana at the Lutheran Student Union convention in Moorhead, Minnesota. He was a science teacher and athletic coach at Ottawa, Illinois following his graduation and later became superintendent of schools at Kadoka, SD.

He was selected South Dakota's state treasurer as a Republican during the term of Democratic Gov. Tom Berry and later served the federal government at posts in Minneapolis and Kansas City. He moved back to Custin 1961.
