Three times Heyden was named to the All-North Central Conference tournament team and in 1980 was voted South Dakota College Female Athlete of the Year. For the 1981-82 season she led Division II in free-throw percentage with 87 percent.
Fueled by Heyden's standout pitching, Augustana won the first of its seven NCC Softball championships. For her efforts, Heyden was voted the tournament's most valuable player. With Heyden on the mound, Augustana's 1982 team finished third in the region tournament and ninth in the College World Series.
