Dan Conrad began his Augustana baseball career with an injury and ended it by being named MVP of the North Central Conference. After belting a grand slam home run in his first collegiate game he proceeded to get picked off first base in his second game and broke his hip. He ended up on the medical redshirt list for the rest of the year.
Beginning in 1995, Dan led a baseball resurgence at Augustana. That year, his play helped Augustana claim the NCC's Southern Division championship. Dan was chosen to the All-NCC team in 1995, 1996, and 1997. He capped his career by being named MVP of the North Central Conference's Southern Division in 1997. The Vikings were 9-7 in league play and runners-up in the division standings. During the same campaign the Vikings swept South Dakota State, the first time Augustana took all four games from the Jacks in 27 seasons. For the year, Dan posted a hefty batting average of .414 with five home runs and 21 runs-batted-in. He also finished among the league's top ten batters in 1996 with a .413 average.
Dan speaks highly of his coach, Scott Timmer. He said,"Coach Timmer always had high expectations for everyone in the program and never let anybody get by being just good enough."
