Dana Nielsen came to Augustana from Armour, SD, and began an assault on the record books. Because of her outstanding accomplishments on the basketball court, she enters the Hall of Fame in her first year of eligibility.
Dana became the North Central Conference's career scoring leader in a memorable weekend in February 1993. Adding to her personal accomplishment, the team swept NDSU and UND at the Elmen Center for the first time in school history. Dana remembers this as the most memorable weekend of her career.
The list of Dana's achievements is long. In addition to earning the top spot on the NCC scoring chart, she also set career marks for field goals made and field goal attempts. She became the first four-time All-NCC selection in league history. Following the 1991-92 and 1992-93 seasons she was voted the league's most valuable player. Twice she was a first team, Division II Kodak All-America choice. In Augustana's record book she is the career leader in field goals and games played, and is second is scoring and rebounding.
In the spring of 1993, she was voted the Fellowship of Christian Athletes/Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce Women's Collegiate Honor Athlete. She was also named the NCAA Woman of the Year for South Dakota and received the Stan Marshall Award as the top female student-athlete in the NCC for 1992-93.
Dana also excelled in the classroom at Augie. She was an NCC honor athlete for the 1992-93 school year, and a two-time academic All-NCC selection. An elementary education major, she maintained a 3.39 grade point average.
Dana joins her sister, Candi Nielsen Musiel '88, in the Hall of Fame. They become the first "sister/sister" duo to enter the Hall.
