Nelson, who was chosen "Honor Athlete of 1939", played on a Viking grid team which won four consecutive conference titles and compiled an overall 29-5 record. He has been a guidance counselor at Northfield High School since 1958 and previously taught and counseled at Watertown, Fairfax, MN and Two Harbors, MN. Nelson was captain of the 1937 football team. A versatile athlete, he lettered three years in basketball.
