Ferris Grund anchored first base on Augustana's 1991 NCAA Division II national championship softball team that rolled to a 61-4-1 record. It's the only national championship team in school history. The Vikings went undefeated in the Midwest Region Tournament, were ranked No. 3 in Division II, and earned their first appearance in the Final Four.
A feared hitter, Ferris his .338 that year and led the team in runs-batted-in with 45. And, she was flawless defensively, posting a .986 fielding average. She was named to the all-tournament team, and was a first-team All-America choice in 1991. She was a two-time All-North Central Conference pick – 1990 and 1991. In 1991, with Ferris hitting clean-up, Augie won the NCC tournament, the Mankato State Invitational, the UNI Invitational and the DakotaDome Tournament.
Choosing a most memorable moment is difficult for Ferris. She wrote, "It is really difficult picking a most memorable moment because there were so many great times. Winning the national championship in 1991 was probably the best because it was a great way to end my college career. It was so special playing softball with such great athletes and friends. We all go along so well. I am thankful to Sandy Jerstad, Perry Emmons, teammates, and fans for making Augie softball the best experience anyone could ask for."
