George has served as superintendent of schools in Balaton, Minn. A native of Dell Rapids, he enrolled at Augustana College in 1931, the same year that Coach "Lefty" Olson began his tenure. Nielsen became a football starter at end by his third game here.

George was a co-captain of the 1933 Viking championship football team. That team had a 5-2 mark and lost only to non-conference opponents Buena Vista (19-6) and Morningside of the NCC (13-7). Within the friendlier confines of the SDIC the 1933 Vikings were undefeated and unscored-upon in winning the title.

In 1934 Nielsen again played on Augustana's undefeated championship SDIC team. He was a second team all-conference performer as a sophomore and a first team honoree his final two seasons. He went on to coach at Philip, Spencer and Yankton where he built up a personal 32-game winning streak from 1935-40. He later served at schools at Stillwater, St. Paul, Afton-Lakeland and Felton.
