Risty retired after serving eight years as the assistant executive director of the Minnesota Higher Education Coordinating Commission and 25 years as an administrator at the University of Minnesota. He was a four year letterwinner in football for the Vikings playing variously at guard, center and tackle. He was also an outstanding performer in the shot put and discus events for the Augie track and field squad.
