Gerry Ihrke played three seasons of varsity basketball for Augustana and finished each season as the Vikings' leading scorer. As a sophomore he led all scorers in the North Central Conference with 338 points, an average of 17.8 points per game and was named all-NCC.
When he finished his basketball career at Augie, he held the following rankings; third on the career scoring chart with 852 points; second in field goals with 314; fourth in free throws made with 224; and third in career scoring average with a 15.2 point average.
As a student, he was sports editor of the EDDA, a member of the Webs, and also a member of a gospel singing group assisting with church outreach and admissions. He graduated from Augustana in 1958 with a degree in Physical Education.
An active member of his community, he has been involved with the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Volunteer Missions to Central and South Africa, and other organizations.
