Howard Bich was a three time varsity letterwinner in basketball and starred for three years as an infielder with the Viking baseball team. In his senior year, he was a guard on the 1961-62 North Central Conference championship team under Coach Ole Odney. He played both second base and shortstop on the diamond and batted .371 and .395 during the 1960 and 1961 campaigns.
During the 1961-62 basketball season, Bich averaged 11.9 points per game. He show 82 percent from the free throw line and 45 percent from the field. In his career, he played a total of 60 games and helped his team achieve a 22-14 NCC record.
After his years at Augustana, Bich received a Master of Natural Science degree in biology from the University of Oklahoma. He has been a teacher/coach all of his career and taught in Wagner beginning in 1970, guiding the Raiders to a 1974 State "B" basketball berth.
In 1977, Howard was nominated as a candidate for "Wagner Citizen of the Year" and in 1980 received the "Teacher of the Year" award from Wagner Community School.
