J. Martell (Marty) Rud of Las Vegas, Nevada, earned five varsity letters in basketball – the first in 1941-42 season and the last during the 1947-48 season when he was captain of the team.
During the 1942-43 season (their first in the NCC), Marty was a starter on the team that included four other Hall of Famers – Lloyd Dobratz, Harold Haugejorde, Art Kilness and Ray Sandvig. They finished 3rd in the conference.
In addition to basketball, Marty was on the Viking tennis team and was class president his junior and senior years. He majored in business administration and history and was active in the Neuronian Society and was an announcer at KSOO radio during college.
