Basketball and baseball were Jack Litfin's athletic pursuits at Augustana and he earned three varsity letters in basketball and one in baseball.
With Litfin in the lineup, the Viking basketball team posted a three-year record of 37-24. In his final season, the 1961-62, he helped Augustana to share in the North Central Conference championship.
During the championship season he averaged 10.6 points a game. He bounced back from an automobile accident to play a major role in the title drive, including 20 points against South Dakota State University in the final conference game of the season.
During the championship season he made 48.5% of his field goal attempts (82 of 169). He attempted the fewest shots among the regulars.
