In just two seasons as a Viking, Jason Reitmeier made a huge impact on Augustana wrestling. He continues to have a huge impact to this day.
Jason transferred to Augustana from the University of Nebraska and as a Viking compiled an impressive 36-4 record with twenty pins for the 1995-1996 season. He was the North Central Conference 134-pound champion and garnered All-American recognition with a third-place finish at the NCAA Division II nationals.
He picked up where he left off the next season, posting a 30-3 record with nine pins. He slipped to fifth place in the NCC tournament and needed a wild card to advance to nationals. He didn't waste the opportunity, battling as the No. 7 seed all the way to the 142-pound title. He was Augustana's first national wrestling champion in twelve years. Jason's most memorable moment came during the national tournament that year. He said,"In the semi-final match at nationals I got taken down, put to my back, and held there for the entire first period. I looked over to my corner and saw Coach Kraig Presler looking confident. I wasn't even worried despite being down 5-0."
