JoAnn Ode Presler is the sixth woman to be selected in her first year of eligibility.
Through the softball seasons of 1983, 1984, 1985 and 1986. Jo was a fixture at third base. During those four years, the Vikings were 115-53, and earned NCC titles and regional playoff spots in both 1983 and 1986.
Jo was the first player to earn All-NCC honors all four years and was also a three-time All-NCC, Academic selection. In 1985, she led the team in stolen bases with 13. As a senior she earned first-team All Region and second team All-America honors
Jo describes a memorable event at the start of one season when the softball team flew to California to face the defending national champion, Cal State Northridge. They had practiced three months in the "pit" (i.e. fall-out shelter in Bergsaker basement), only to be bumped from the plane in Denver. She says, "Coaches Sandy Jerstad and Emmons ‘calmly discussed' the dilemma with airline personnel. We flew first class from Denver to California."
The opportunities to meet new people and develop friendships with teammates are important long-term memories of Augie, she says.
Jo was an Elementary Education major and graduated magna cum laude in 1986. While at Augie, she was named to Chi Epsilon and Who's Who Among American College Students. She is also a member of the Brandon Valley High School Hall of Fame.
