It’s rare in this day of collegiate athletics for a student-athlete to compete in two sports. Katie Krauth did it and earned first-team, all-conference honors in each endeavor.
With her dad, Dave, as the Vikings’ head women’s basketball coach, Krauth was selected to All-North Central Conference first teams in 2003-2004 and 2004-2005. In addition, she was a two-time Academic All-NCC choice. She is 14th on Augustana’s career scoring list with 1,335 points. She is 19th in scoring average (11.4 points a game).
At the conclusion of the basketball season, Krauth joined the softball team. A standout pitcher, she was honored as the NCC’s Most Outstanding Player in 2005 and again in 2006. She was a four-time all-conference choice and twice received All-America accolades. She was cited as a Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America third-team pick in 2005 and 2006 and was a first team pick to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Region teams in 2005 and 2006. She made the academic all-conference team three times and was the conference player of the week numerous times. In 2006, she led the Vikings to the conference championship.
Her career earned average (ERA) of 1.08 stands third best in program history. She is second in most strikeouts (752), second in shutouts (32), fourth in complete games (77), and ninth in wins (65).
            Memorable moments?
“Anytime we played SDSU in basketball at home and packed the place. Beating them along with USD, NDSU, and UND was special. Winning the conference softball title my senior year was also memorable.”
Krauth also recalls and values the support she and the teams received from her family as well as Larry Borgum and Julie Ashworth.
“Borgie was such a huge supporter of my career, but more importantly my entire family at the time.”
Krauth earned a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership PK-12 from the University of South Dakota in 2015. She is a third-grade teacher at John F. Kennedy Elementary School in Sioux Falls. She coaches youth basketball and is a Sunday School teacher/volunteer.
Katie and her husband, Sam Everson ’05, are the parents of Beckett, Bronson, Bauwer, and Blaykely.
Augustana University is proud to induct Katie Krauth Everson into the Athletic Hall of Fame.
