Division II wrestling championships was won by Keith Hanson. He earned All-America honors and a trip to the NCAA-Division I championships. For the 1984-85 season, Keith had a record of 30-8-1, including 11 falls. The team also had an outstanding year with a 12-3-1 overall dual meet record. The spring of 1985, Keith was named College Men's Honor Athlete by the Chamber of Commerce Sports and Recreation Committee and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, for his athletic and academic accomplishments and community leadership.
Keith posted a winning record each season at Augie; he was 6-3 as a freshman, 14-10 as a sophomore, 14-4 as a junior and 30-8-1 as a senior for an overall record of 64-25-1 including 28 falls. As a junior he was second in the NCC and competed at the national tournament. That was a warm-up to win the national title as a senior. During the summer of 1984, he toured with Athletes in Action.
Keith wrote that his most memorable match came at the University of Northern Iowa Open when he won 8-4 over his opponent from the University of Iowa. Coach Paul Kendle was in Keith's corner with coach Dan Gable in his opponent's corner. After graduating from Augustana in 1985, Keith continued his education at the University of Nebraska and earned his degree in mechanical engineering in 1988. He earned a master's in electrical engineering from the University of Dayton (Ohio) in 1994.
