Koln Knight, a Beresford, South Dakota, native was a "wrestler extraordinaire" at Augustana and posted a school record 155 wins in his career. He was four-time NCC champion and was twice named the league's outstanding wrestler.
As a freshman, he was runner-up at the NCAA-Division II Nationals at 177 pounds. As a junior and senior, Koln was the Division II National Champion at 190 pounds. Also in 1985 and 1986, he was named as the outstanding wrestler for all of Division II. Koln competed in the Division I Nationals and placed fourth as a junior and third as a senior. He is a three-time Division II All-American and a two-time Division I All-American.
During his four years, he was undefeated in NCC dual and tournament competition. He holds the Augustana records for career wins (155), technical falls in a season (12), career technical falls (20), most wins in season (49), and most consecutive wins (47).
Koln was named the 1986 Male College Athlete of the Year by the South Dakota Sportswriters. He was also the Sioux Falls Honor Athlete in 1986.
Koln's most memorable competition was when the team placed third at the NCAA-Division II Nationals in 1985. He won his first national championship and earned the Outstanding Wrestler Award there. Koln wrote, "I am very thankful to Coach Paul Kendle for his guidance and leadership."
Koln received his master's degree in Education Administration from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1994.
