Fjellestad was a four-sport athlete and became Augie's first all-conference athlete when named to the 1922 all-conference football team. He played halfback on the football squad and centerfielder in baseball. In track he was an outstanding performer, capturing first in the 100-yard dash, third in the 220, second in the pole vault, and first in the broad jump in one conference meet. Fjellestad served the last 30 years until his death in 1962 as a teacher and superintendent at Astoria High School.
