Augustana University Athletics

Omer came to Augustana as an outstanding athlete at Madison Central High School.A four year starter as a member of the Augustana football team, Applewick and his teammates, under Coach "Lefty" Olson, were undefeated in league play from 1932-34; outscored all opponents 414-152, had an overall 17-5 record and were unscored upon in 1933. Omer was a first team all conference end.

Applewick was also a dominant force for four years on the basketball court for the Vikings, oftentimes ranking as the team's high scorer. During his senior year he scored 136 points, nearly one-third of the team's total. He was named all-conference twice and as a junior received all-conference votes at all positions. Following his graduation from Augustana, Omar coached one year at Jefferson, S.D., moving to Madison the following year where he coached basketball at the St. Thomas High School for nine years until its closing in 1945.
