Jenter was nicknamed "The Blonde Titan" for his exploits as a Viking tackle and weight man with the track team. He began his athletic career at Augie as a junior transfer student and became a line fixture after his first game. In the spring of 1942 he became a consistent place winner in the shot put, discus, high jump and javelin; won the shot put in both the Dakota Relays and the NCC meet as the Vikings went undefeated in six meets and captured the North Central crown in their first year as a member.
In the fall of '42 Jenter's brilliant all around play earned him all conference honors; a spot on the Des Moines Register's all star unit and honorable mention in the balloting to choose the conference's Most Outstanding Athlete for 1942-43. World War II caused cancellation of the 1943 NCC meet but Jenter won the Dakota Relays shot put with a toss of 44' 2" and took second in the high jump and discus.
